Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh – A 27-year-old female employee of a private firm in Noida has tragically taken her own life, allegedly due to prolonged workplace harassment. The incident, which occurred on July 12, has prompted an investigation by Ghaziabad police.
The deceased, who worked as a tele-caller for a third-party company contracted by Axis Bank, reportedly consumed poison at her Ghaziabad residence. Her family claims she had been enduring physical and mental harassment from colleagues for the past five to six months.
Following the incident, the victim’s brother filed a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with abetment of suicide. The complaint names three colleagues, including one woman, as alleged perpetrators of the harassment.
A suicide note found in the victim’s room reportedly detailed her struggles with workplace harassment, corroborating the family’s claims. The brother stated that his sister had confided in the family about her ordeal just days before her death.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Nandgram) Ravi Kumar Singh confirmed that an investigation is underway. The police are reviewing CCTV footage from the victim’s workplace and questioning her colleagues to gather more information.
This tragic event highlights the serious issue of workplace harassment and its potentially devastating consequences. It underscores the need for robust mechanisms to prevent and address such behavior in professional environments.
